Integrated Sky Monitor

Compact Differential Image Motion Monitor

The ISM compact, rugged, carrier grade package and provides 24/7/365 measurements using an array of passive sensors including:

  • C-DIMM, our Compact Differential Image Motion Monitor is weatherproof and doesn’t require a tracking mount if Polaris is visible
  • SSM, our Sun Seeing Monitor uses the shadow band ranger principle to provide daytime turbulence measurements
  • All sky camera, 5mp, capable of reaching magnitude 5 stars
  • Sky temperature
  • Irradiance sensors
  • Weather station

The ISM uses an Intel iCore system running Linux. The C++ software is partially open source and allows for additional custom processing. The small form factor and low energy and low bandwidth requirement makes it easy to deploy in the field.

Alt/Az tracking mount for C-DIMM

Alt/Az tracking mount for C-DIMM

Alt/Az tracking mount for C-DIMM

The Alt/Az tracking mount is the ideal companion to the C-DIMM for locations where Polaris is not always visible, typically below 20°N latitude. Any other star of equivalent magnitude can be used as a reference to provide accurate seeing measurements regardless of the location.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the tracking mount and C-DIMM allow complete sky survey by measuring seeing in different directions, more reliable data collection by avoiding partial cloud cover or by using a star closer to the field of observation than Polaris.

Thanks to its waterproof design and absolute encoders, the Alt/As tracking mount allows the ISM and C-DIMM to provide true robotic DIMM operation and performance without maintenance.
